About Us

FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT MICHAEL MUWONGE:

Born and raised in Katwe a suburb of Kampala the Capital city of Uganda in East Africa, Michael nearly missed going to school because his parents could not afford paying for his schooling. With the help of his eldest sister Harriet, who gave up school at the age of thirteen and started working so she could support her siblings through school, Michael was able to get an education. After traveling to various countries in the world, Michael realized the need of educating the children of Uganda especially those in the villages and rural areas. As a result, the Sifa Children Organization was born and just recently has finalized all the required payments to the Internal Revenue Service for the registration as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Any day now, we will be receiving a letter confirming our non-profit status.

SIFA CHILDREN:

Sifa is a Swahili word which means Praise. We are committed to transforming the lives of orphans in Uganda from a life of pain, need and lack of education to a life of gratitude and praise. To date our organization has purchased sixty acres of land and acquired three other centers. An orphanage is currently being built to care and support over 800 orphans who are under our care.

SLOGAN: For Such a Time as This…from the Book of Esther 4:14

UGANDAN STATISTICS:

Uganda is a nation the size of the state of Oregon. It has a population of thirty-one million people of these fifty percent are children under the age of fifteen. Ninety-six percent of the Ugandan population lives in villages on less than a dollar a day. A report from UNICEF years ago stated that Uganda has 2.4 million orphans due to AIDS and war. Of these, 2 million are AIDS orphans; the highest number of any country in the world. UNICEF estimated then that by 2010, Uganda would have 3.5million orphans and in the next ten years the number would rise to 8-10 million.

I am deeply grateful for your time and consideration in partnering with us. Any donations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for joining us in this endeavor that will prove to be an excellent way to invest and empower the lives of these children.

Sincerely,

Michael Muwonge
